Her pregnancy was going along smoothly. She was feeling fine and getting big. Then one day she remembered they had not decided on a name. She asked her husband to bring home a baby name book from the library. They looked at the book individually at night while watching the news. Mikhail Gorbachev was elected President of Russia, Nelson Mandela was finally freed from prison, and the Hubble Space Telescope was launched into orbit. Each made a list of names, a list of boy’s names and a list of girl’s names. When they compared the lists there were a few names that were on both lists. That is how the name of Matthew for a boy and Christina for a girl were chosen.

It was a bright sunny, summer morning in New York, when the scheduled birth was to take place. The baby was two weeks overdue, so the doctor scheduled a Cesarean section. While the c-section was going on, the perspective (PROSPECTIVE) father was in and out of the men’s room. The pressure was killing him. Finally, around 8:30 a.m. on this late June, 1990 morning, Matthew had arrived. He weighed in at around 7 1/2 lbs. He was long and leggy. Just the way the doctor had described the baby during pregnancy (FRAGMENT).
Matthew's mom is a big Los Angeles Dodgers fan. While she was in the hospital, Fernando Valenzuela pitched a no-hitter. She was not too happy about missing that game on television. That same month, the NBA draft was held. The number one pick in the draft was Derrick Coleman, chosen by the New Jersey Nets. In the MLB draft, the first pick was given to the Atlanta Braves. They chose Chipper Jones. In the NFL draft, the Indianapolis Colts selected Jeff George. In the NHL draft, the Quebec Nordiques chose Owen Nolan.

The ride home from the hospital was uneventful until they reached this park that was just five blocks from the house. Matthew just started to scream and scream. He must have known he was almost home, and wanted to let the neighbors know. When they arrived at the home, a banner reading "It's A Boy" hung from the house. Balloons were everywhere, along with family, friends, and neighbors.
July 4th had rolled around, and Matthew ventured out for the first time. Even though it was only a backyard barbecue, he seemed glad to be outside. Hisgreat-grandmother could not get enough of him. All she wanted to do was hold him. That day she nicknamed him "il me popo." That is Italian for "my little boy." Future summer barbecues had Matthew more lively. He was getting bigger and starting to smile. While the grandmothers were fussing over the new grandson (,) the men in the family would talk politics. They would discuss President Bush's Americans with Disabilities Act.
As the summer came to an end and dad went back to work at a New York bank, weekends were for family life. Taking rides in the Dodge Dynasty, listening toM.C. Hammer's "U Can't Touch This," "Ice, Ice Baby " by Vanilla Ice, and"Thunderstruck" by AC/DC (FRAGMENT). The family was looking into buying a bigger car. They were looking at the Ford Aerostar and Mazda MPV.
Matthew's grandmother wanted to baby-sit, so she said his parents should go out to dinner and a movie. They agreed, and off they went. They went to dinner at this place called Cooper's Ale. When it came time for the movies, they could not decide between Die Hard 2 and Kindergarten Cop. They decided on Die Hard 2.

Christmas had finally arrived at Matthew's house. He was six months old, and able to sit up on his own and enjoy everything. His dad even dressed up as Santa. Matthew received so many gifts,(RUN-ON SENTENCE) his living room looked like Toys-R-Us. He received clothes, for he was growing like a weed. Matthew received loads of toys to keep him happy as he grew. Some of the toys he got were a Sesame Street farm, Sesame Street musical radio, baseball cards, Mickey Mouse learn to dress doll, and a Little Tikes Push'N Ride Walker.
Matthew's mom knew her son would probably grow-up to be a New York sports team fan. He would be happy to know that the New York Giants had a great year in 1990, which led to win Super Bowl XXV in January 1991. We can't say the New York Yankees or the New York Mets faired as well. They had dismal seasons. Matthew's mom seems to want to push him in a different direction. He had been wearing a cute little Los Angeles Dodgers baseball outfit. Only the future will tell what team he really likes.

Now that 1990 has come to an end, we (USE "HIS FAMILY" TO MAINTAIN THE THIRD PERSON POINT OF VIEW) know he will probably be spoiled. He is the first grandchild on both sides of his family. He has no grandfathers, (RUN-ON) both are deceased. So when he gets older, his grandmothers are probably going to buy him anything he wants.
